We had our first "official" track meet last Thursday.  I say official with quotation marks because it wasn't an officially scored team meet.  We had the opportunity to travel to Bend to compete with Summit and Aloha High Schools.  We have been opening up the season against these two school for the past few years, and we always enjoy the quality competition, and outstanding sportsmanship that both programs provide.  It is truly a relationship that we hope to continue next year when it is our turn to host the meet.

With last week being our finals week for the winter trimester we weren't able to leave until 11:40, which got us to Bend at 3:30.  After a quick warm-up we were off and running, and throwing, and jumping, etc.

The meet started off big for us in the throws as Greg Skipper put the shot an incredible 52' 10" which is the 2nd best throw in OCHS history.  Then freshman Beau Brosseau set a new freshman class record in the shot by tossing it 44' 8".  On the other side of the field, senior Chris Tiller launched the javelin 160' 6" which bettered his previous PR by over 15' to win that event over teammate Andy Rondema who also had a very good throw of over 152'.

Other victories and top performances for us were:

--Trevor Ferguson taking 1st in the long and triple jumps.

--Kody Kozak taking 1st in the high jump and 2nd in the long jump.

--Grant Wilson winning the 200 and taking 2nd in the 100.

--Ryan Rau winning the 1500

--Our 4x100 relay team getting some help to win that event

--Sam Hoult running an inspired anchor leg in the 4x400 to pull out a 2nd place finish

After the meet we had some extra excitement as one of our buses broke down in the Subway parking lot.  Thankfully we had enough room on the other three buses to get everyone home, but the delay meant that we pulled back into the parking lot at 1:45 AM!  The athletes didn't have to worry about school the next day as it was a teacher grading day, but needless to say, Friday was a long day for those of us who had to go to work!

Next week is spring break so we have encouraged our athletes to attend the Canby All-Comers meet which starts at 12:30 PM on Wednesday.
