This weekend could be the biggest for high school track and field in Oregon until the state championships in May.
Nearly all schools in the county are scheduled to compete at five different meets around the state.
Sixteen
athletes and three relay teams from Douglas, Glide and Days Creek will
compete in the annual Meet of Champions, held at Willamette University
in Salem.
The non-scoring, qualifier meet has been held the past
30 years at Gladstone, Cascade, Stayton and Sweet Home high schools,
but is finding success at the Charles Bowles track.
“We moved
the MOC to Willamette three years ago and it’s been a fabulous
partnership,” said Cascade High coach Dan Petersen. “As of right now,
we have 55 teams registered to come. This is easily the biggest field
we’ve ever had.”
